jose luis brown opened the scoring for argentina in 23^rd min and I stay a lead until half time .just after 10 min of second half jorge valdona  doubled  argentina  lead.it was like all over for germany but karl heinz  pulled a goal back in 74^th min for west germany then west germany equalised in the 80^th minutes of the match. Jorge Burruchaga allowed argentina to regain the lead in 84^th minutes by super pass of diego maradona.this was the winning moment for argentina and they were able to celebrate their 2^nd world cup in three tournament

With this defeat, the German manager, Franz Beckenbauer gained the rather unwanted distinction of having lost a World Cup final as both a player and a manager.

Referee Edgardo Codesal refused to award a penalty kick to German player Klaus Augenthaler.later he incurred  the wrath of the Argentinians by not awarding them a penalty kick after Lothar Matthäus allegedly tackled Gabriel Calderón. Pedro Monzón had the distinction of being the first player in 14 World Cup final games to be ejected, after being shown a straight red card. Gustavo Dezotti, already booked earlier, received the second yellow card of the game when he hauled down Jürgen Kohler with what the New York Times described as a "neck tackle right out of professional wrestling". Dezotti was sent off near the end for a tussle with Jürgen Kohler when Kohler refused to give-up the ball in an attempt to waste time. Diego Maradona burst into tears at the final whistle and blamed the referee for the loss. Argentina entered the game with four players suspended and ended it with nine men on the field, overall losing over half of their squad due to injury or bookings.It was also the lowest-scoring final yet seen with Argentina becoming the first team not to score during a World Cup Final, having only 1 shot on goal, while Germany had 16 scoring chances out of 23 shots. The only goal of the contest arrived in the 85th minute when Mexican referee Edgardo Codesal awarded a controversial penalty shot to West Germany, after a foul on Rudi Völler by Roberto Sensini.

This was the third world cup title for west germany, also making them the team to have played in the most FIFA World Cup finals at the time.
